FUNdamentals of Fly-Fishing Finale

The FUNdamentals of Fly FIshing class at Waterville Valley, NH successfully completed it's final session on June 21.  The class was run by a group of Pemi TU members who are instructors in the NH Fish & Game Department's "Let's Go Fishing" program.

The final day consisted of instruction and practice on casting and fishing.  Steve Hackett gave instruction and demonstrations, while Ray Kucharski, Roy Coughlin, Michael Maxwell, Alan Tailby, and Lyn Vignola assisted with guidance during practice.

After casting practice, the crew helped the class tie on velcro "flies" and set out brigh felt fish (dubbed "GeFELTefish" by this irrascible reporter.  The class practiced casting to, catching, and sometimes retrieving them.

The instructors then packed up the equipment so that the class could move on to Corcoran's Pond to finally put all of the trainng to use.

At Corcoran's Pond, the graduates were able to try their hands at catching trout remaining after the Casting for Kirby youth fishing derby.  One graduate was successful in landing a rainbow.

For the adventurous, a practical introduction to graduate studies (float tube use) was provided.
