Beebe River Conservation Land

In May 2014, The Conservation Fund (TCF www.conservationfund.org) purchased 5,435 acres of forest land including roughly 50% of the Beebe River watershed, and containing 5+ miles of the river.  Since learning of this purchase in April of 2014, the Pemigewasset Chapter of TU worked actively with NH Fish & Game biologists and TCF to assess the property's value as wild Brook Trout habitat.

At our January 2015 meeting, we learned that The Conservation Fund intends to factor the needs of Brook Trout into plans for upgrading culverts (several existing culverts are undersized and are impediments to migration).  Pemi TU plans to assist NH Fish & Game with further studies and possibly habitat improvements this summer.
